PM directs creation of plan to transform Northwest Coast

Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly directed the development of a strategic plan to accelerate growth in the northwestern coast region from Ras El Hekma to Marsa Matrouh, aligning with national objectives.

Madbouly held a meeting with Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Major General Khaled Shoeib, Governor of Matrouh, Engineer Ahmed Abdel-Azim, Director of Dar Al-Handasah Consulting Office, Dr. Abdel-Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities for Technical Affairs, Engineer Ahmed Ibrahim, Head of El-Alamein Authority and Supervisor of Northwest Coast Authorities, and Reda Gaballah, Mayor of Matrouh. He emphasized transforming the region into a global hub for tourism, residential, and logistics sectors through integrated development.

Dar Al Handasah's Ahmed Abdel Azim presented the strategic master plan for West Ras El Hekma, outlining the national vision, site analysis, comparable international projects, and design concept.

Abdel Azim highlighted West Ras El Hekma's potential as a major Mediterranean city, a global destination, and Egypt’s gateway to Africa, Asia, and Europe, emphasizing its role in future coastal development. He also stressed the site’s regional connectivity via integrated transport, including highways, rail, airports, and a proposed port.

Abdel Azim’s analysis covered local, urban, and natural environments, emphasizing preservation of the area's ecological and social fabric.

He detailed land dimensions, site challenges, and the development framework: adapting to terrain, sustainable desert planning for eco-tourism and agriculture, promoting economic diversity, integrating with the environment, and utilizing topography for agricultural spaces and sea views.

Abdel Azim reviewed international best practices in urban development, diversification, sustainability, and infrastructure. He outlined the project’s vision: development aligned with natural characteristics, not centralized planning. He discussed economic activities, urban design, and the master plan, incorporating tourism, residential, agriculture, logistics, roads, and open spaces.
