Egypt, Ukraine cooperate to facilitate exports, attract investments to Africa

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, on the sidelines of their participation in the G7 meetings in the Italian city of Fiuggi.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Dr. Abdelatty valued the cooperative relationship between the two countries. He expressed his aspiration to hold the next round of political consultations to reinvigorate existing joint frameworks of action and convene the Egyptian-Ukrainian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.

He also discussed global food security with his Ukrainian counterpart, stressing the importance of reviewing efforts aimed at restoring the flow of agricultural product exports from Ukraine to various countries of the world, particularly grain exports.

He expressed Egypt's desire to strengthen trade and economic cooperation with Ukraine, given Egypt's status as Ukraine's top trading partner in Africa and the Middle East. He also expressed interest in advancing cooperation in gas, construction and reconstruction, energy, communications and information technology, and industry localization.

He also voiced Egypt's support for launching tripartite cooperation between Egypt and Ukraine in Africa leveraging Egypt's position as a gateway for exports and investments into African markets.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Egypt's stance on the Ukrainian crisis, emphasizing respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. He highlighted Egypt's vision for a negotiated solution that serves the interests of both parties, emphasizing Egypt's role in relevant initiatives such as the African Leaders Initiative, the Arab Crisis Contact Group, and participation in the ministerial meeting of the Chinese-Brazilian initiative on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
