FM, EU discuss second tranche of financial package

Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty met with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kalas, on Sunday. They held political consultations to discuss bilateral relations between Egypt and the EU, as well as recent regional and international developments of mutual concern.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, stated that Minister Abdelatty commended the ongoing consultations and coordination with the High Representative and the EU on various matters, both bilateral and of shared regional and global interest. He welcomed the significant progress in Egypt-EU relations and expressed Egypt's commitment to further cooperation within the six pillars of the strategic and comprehensive partnership. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the economic aspects of this partnership, including the approval and disbursement of the second tranche of the four billion euro European financial package.

During the discussions, the Dr. Badr Abdelatty highlighted the substantial burden Egypt bears in hosting millions of refugees and migrants.

The spokesperson added that the situation in the Gaza Strip was also addressed. The Minister welcomed the EU’s support for the Arab plan to rebuild Gaza, urging the EU to participate in its implementation and in the reconstruction conference Egypt plans to host. They also exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa, Red Sea security, and Egypt's water security.
