Kouchouk: Significant wage increase for state employees July 1

Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, confirmed that state employee salaries will increase starting from next July, coinciding with the implementation of the fiscal year 2025/2026 budget, as part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve wages and ease the burden on citizens.

The Minister detailed that the annual periodic allowance will increase by 10% for those under the Civil Service Law and by 15% for those not subject to it, with a minimum increase of 150 Egyptian pounds per month. The 'cost of living' allowance will be raised from 600 to 1,000 Egyptian pounds, and an additional incentive of 300 Egyptian pounds will be provided for all job grades from ‘Sixth’ to ‘Excellent’.

He confirmed that the minimum wage will be raised to 7,000 Egyptian pounds starting next July, noting that the lowest job grade will see a total monthly salary increase of 1,100 Egyptian pounds.

Kouchouk further added that the 2025/2026 draft budget allocates 679.1 billion Egyptian pounds for salaries, reflecting an 18.1% increase to accommodate the new adjustments. He emphasized that adequate funding will be secured to facilitate the hiring of over 75,000 teachers, 30,000 doctors, and 10,000 employees in other government sectors.

The Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, approved the 2025/2026 draft budget and forwarded it to the House of Representatives. The budget projects revenues of approximately 3.1 trillion Egyptian pounds, representing a 19% annual growth rate, and expenditures of about 4.6 trillion Egyptian pounds, an 18% increase. The government aims to achieve a primary surplus of 4% of GDP and reduce public debt.
