Egypt, France collaborate on Metro 6, Alstom Complex

Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, discussed with Eric Chevallier, the French Ambassador to Cairo, ways to enhance joint cooperation between Egypt and France in the transportation and industry sectors.

The Minister emphasized the deep historical relations between the two countries, pointing to the fruitful cooperation in developing the railway transportation sector, electric traction projects, and the metro.

The latest developments in the Greater Cairo Metro Line 6 project were discussed, which aims to provide sustainable and environmentally friendly mass transportation.

The Minister explained that the Egyptian side is allocating and reviewing the project's route. The project comes within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The French side commissioned "Egis-Setec" to provide technical specifications for systems and civil works to the National Authority for Tunnels. This prepares the way for Alstom to submit its technical, commercial, and financial proposal, which will be reviewed and approved by the Egyptian government before the final contract signing.

The Minister and the French Ambassador reviewed the latest developments related to the establishment of the Alstom industrial complex in Borg Al Arab city, which aims to localize the mobile units industry in Egypt.

The complex spans 40 acres and includes the establishment of two factories for the production of electrical systems and railway components, and another for the production of various types of mobile units metro – LRT tram – monorail – high-speed train, etc.).

The Minister stressed the importance of the project in meeting local market needs and exporting to countries in the region, in addition to providing thousands of job opportunities and localizing various industries in Egypt, including the mobile unit industry.
