In a meeting with agricultural export and investment figures, Agriculture Minister, Alaa Farouk, has underscored the crucial role of agricultural exports in driving economic growth. He highlighted the sector's potential to generate hard currency, support industrial development, and create jobs.
Farouk emphasized the importance of value-added agricultural
processing as a means to increase export revenue, reduce waste, and enhance the
competitiveness of Egypt's agricultural products. He noted the growing success
of processed agricultural exports alongside traditional fresh produce.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Hesham El-Hossary,
Chairman of the Agriculture and Water Resources Committee in the House of Representatives,
Engineer Abdelsalam El-Gebaly, Chairman of the Agriculture and Water Resources
Committee in the Senate, Engineer Ali Issa, Chairman of the Egyptian
Businessmen Association, Abdelhamid El-Demerdash, Chairman of the Agricultural
Export Council, senior agricultural export and investment figures, and
representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Minister Farouk called on attendees to share their ideas for
advancing the agricultural sector. He emphasized the importance of addressing
challenges, fostering public-private partnerships, and leveraging scientific
research to drive innovation.
The Minister praised the private sector's contribution to
export growth, noting that Egypt's agricultural exports surpassed 7.3 million
tons last year.
Farouk concluded his speech by urging exporters to strive for the ambitious goal set by the political leadership: to increase Egypt's total exports to $100 billion, with a significant contribution from the agricultural sector. He reaffirmed the value of agricultural research, emphasizing that all researchers within the Ministry of Agriculture are considered experts in their fields as long as their work benefits the country.
