Essmat discusses Dabaa project milestones with Russian energy leaders

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Essmat, initiated his visit to Moscow, Russia, with a strategic meeting with Andrey Petrov, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom and Head of Atomstroyexport.

The meeting, which took place following his arrival to participate in the BRICS Energy Ministers' meetings and Russian Energy Week, focused on the progress of the Dabaa nuclear power plant project.

Accompanied by Dr. Amgad Alwakil, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, and Nazih El-Naggary, Egypt's Ambassador to Russia, the Minister discussed the latest developments in the project's implementation. The meeting underscored Egypt's commitment to peaceful nuclear energy for electricity generation.

Dr. Mahmoud Essmat reviewed the work program, the timeline, training programs and their various stages, and licenses procedures to the cadres of the nuclear power plants, as well as the role of the reference station in Leningrad and its training center in qualifying, training and granting authorization to the crews of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority.

Essmat praised the strategic partnership and cooperation between Egypt and Russia to implement the Dabaa nuclear power plant project. He highlighted the project as a testament to the historical relationship between the two nations. He emphasized the ongoing collaboration between Egyptian and Russian entities, as well as international partners, in equipment manufacturing and other key areas. He explained that Egypt's energy strategy prioritizes expanding renewable energy sources, with nuclear power playing a significant role in the country's electricity generation.

During his visit, Dr. Mahmoud Essmat is scheduled to tour the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant reference station and its training center. He will also meet with leaders of Russia's nuclear energy sector, including Rosatom, and engage in discussions with experts from various nuclear power plants to assess the progress and implementation rates of the Dabaa project.
