During his official visit to Gabon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Dr. Badr Abdelatty met with Gabonese President Olédé Nguema at the presidential palace in Libreville.
Abdelatty conveyed the greetings of President Sisi to his Gabonese counterpart, emphasizing Egypt's keenness to strengthen cooperation with Gabon. He highlighted the strong and distinguished relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of building upon the positive momentum witnessed following the Gabonese President's recent visit to Cairo in November 2024. Abdelatty further emphasized the need to give a strong impetus to the implementation of the outcomes of that visit.
Minister Abdelatty affirmed
Egypt's support for the ongoing transitional phase in Gabon and the established
timetable for its completion. He extended his congratulations on the successful
outcome of the recent constitutional referendum.
The Minister emphasized the
importance of fostering economic cooperation between the two countries through
increased trade and investment exchange. He highlighted the promising
opportunities available for Egyptian companies to contribute to development projects
in Gabon. Notably, the Minister was accompanied by a delegation of
representatives from prominent Egyptian companies eager to explore investment
opportunities in sectors such as construction, infrastructure, energy,
medicine, housing, and communications.
He reviewed the fruitful
bilateral cooperation in many projects successfully implemented in Gabon with
Egyptian expertise, such as the Egyptian-Gabonese hospital in Libreville, recognized
as a successful model of bilateral cooperation. He affirmed Egypt's readiness
to provide technical support, technology transfer, and capacity building to
enhance the capabilities of Gabonese national cadres in various fields.
Dr. Khaled El-Anany, Egypt's
candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, participated in the
meeting and presented his vision for his candidacy. He emphasized that he is a
candidate for all African and Arab countries in this endeavor.
For his part, President Anjema
conveyed his greetings to President Sisi, expressing his appreciation for the
warm welcome he received during his recent visit to Egypt. He commended the
leading role played by Egypt in supporting stability and development across the
African continent. President Anjema expressed Gabon's strong aspiration to
strengthen cooperation with Egypt in diverse fields.
During the meeting, the Gabonese president announced his decision to withdraw his country's candidate from the UNESCO race. This decision was made in appreciation of President Sisi and in support of Dr. Khaled El-Anany as the African candidate. Subsequently, the Gabonese government issued an official statement calling for international support for the Egyptian candidacy.
