Minister of Labor Mohamed Gobran announced today, Sunday, that Tuesday, January 7, 2025, will be an official paid holiday for employees in private sector companies subject to the provisions of Labor Law No. 12 of 2003, on the occasion of Christmas.
This decision aligns with Council of Ministers' Decision No. (9) of 2025, which designates Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as the Christmas holiday for employees in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administrative units, public sector companies, public business sector companies, and the private sector.
In this regard, the Ministry of
Labor has issued a circular today to central administrations and labor
directorates in all governorates. This circular instructs them to disseminate
information regarding the granting of an official paid holiday to employees
subject to Labor Law No. 12 of 2003 on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The circular acknowledges that employers may require employee presence on this holiday due to work circumstances. In such cases, employees are entitled to double their daily wage in accordance with Article 52 of the law, in addition to their regular wages.
