Egypt urges UK investment in clean energy, monorail maintenance

Britain expressed its desire today, Wednesday, to strengthen its investments in Egypt, especially in the clean energy sector. This came during a meeting between Yasmine Qurayshi, the British Trade Envoy to Egypt, and Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport.

Qurayshi confirmed that the British government and companies are interested in investing in new and renewable energy fields, in line with Britain's trends towards clean industries and combating climate change. The minister pointed to the importance of cooperation in renewable energy projects such as wind, solar and green hydrogen, in addition to water desalination and sewage treatment, benefiting from British expertise in these fields.

The minister reviewed the monorail project, which is being implemented by British companies, and requested British support for project maintenance and spare parts provision. Ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of industry and transport were discussed, in the presence of Gareth Bayley, British Ambassador to Cairo, and Ambassador Ehab Nasr, Advisor to the Minister of Industry for International Cooperation.

The minister stressed the depth of Egyptian-British relations and his aspiration to increase British investments in Egypt, especially in the pharmaceutical, food and engineering industries. Projects of companies in Egypt, such as Blue Sky and Polar Hydro, were reviewed, and the minister stressed the government's keenness to remove obstacles and provide the necessary support. The minister extended an invitation to the British envoy to attend the opening of the British Olmed company's factory in Egypt, which specializes in the production of completely locally manufactured kidney dialysis filters and devices, next April.

Qurayshi praised the urban renaissance in Egypt, especially in the field of roads, construction and the New Administrative Capital. She also praised the noticeable speed of procedures at the level of the Ministry of Industry.
