Sleeper train component production begins at Colway

In line with Egypt's efforts to localize the railway industry and its feeder industries, Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, paid a visit to the Spanish company Colway's factory in Kom Abu Radi workshops in Beni Suef.

This factory is designed to fulfill 70% of the domestic rolling stock component requirements of the Egyptian National Railways Authority and the Ministry of Transport, using local currency, and will additionally engage in international exports.

The project is implemented in two phases. The completed and operational first phase involved building a 3,000 square meter factory within the Kom Abu Radi workshops to produce internal components for rolling stock (locomotives and trains) and public transportation vehicles requiring upgrades and rehabilitation.

The planned second phase involves constructing a 4,000 square meter factory, an expansion of the Kom Abu Radi workshops, to increase mass production of train interior components, meeting the demands of Egypt's ongoing rolling stock factory projects.

The Minister inspected the production stages of the internal components of sleeping cars. He stressed the need to expedite the implementation of the second phase of the project. He viewed two models of cars that had been completely rehabilitated and developed and followed up on the rehabilitation and modernization of 14 Spanish trains at Kom Abu Radi workshops. The Minister honoured a number of employees of the Railway Authority.

The factory represents a launchpad for localizing the manufacturing of rolling stock components in Egypt. The project contributes to the development of the railway sector and the provision of high-quality services to citizens and tourists. It contributes to making Egypt a large industrial stronghold.

It is worth noting that Kom Abu Radi workshops are located on an area of 75 acres and specialize in conducting various overhauls for all types of passenger cars. The development work aims to completely rehabilitate and modernize the cars. It is planned to complete a sleeping train consisting of 10 cars every 3 months.
