Egypt seeks to advance iron and steel industry

Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, and Engineer Hassan El Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, met with Ayman El Ashry, Chairman of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of El Ashry Steel Group, to discuss ways and mechanisms to advance the iron and steel industry in Egypt.

The meeting explored investment opportunities in Egypt's iron and steel industry, focusing on leveraging production and technology to attract new investments.  Efforts to support the transition to a green economy and the replacement of new and renewable energies in various industries, such as the iron and steel industry, were also reviewed, given its energy-intensive nature. This contributes to reducing carbon emissions and complying with international and European Union requirements.

El Wazir emphasized that the iron and steel industry is a promising strategic industry, a sector the Ministry of Industry prioritizes. It is a pillar upon which various sectors of infrastructure, construction, and engineering industries depend. It is an industry that contributes to creating added value and deepening local manufacturing to bridge import gaps and increase export rates.

For his part, El Ashry praised the government's efforts to support the private sector across various industrial sectors, which strengthen the local economy.
