Egypt and Rwanda have agreed to establish a logistics zone in a plot of land allocated by Rwanda near the Tanzanian border.
This was announced
during a meeting between Dr. Badr Abdelattty, Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, and Olivier Ndohungirehi, Rwandan Minister
of Foreign Affairs, in Kigali. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Dr.
Abdelatty's official visit to Rwanda.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid,
spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Dr. Abdelatty
emphasized President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's strong commitment to
Egyptian-African relations, particularly with fellow Nile Basin countries. He
stressed the importance of addressing Africa's challenges through African-led
solutions that consider the unique circumstances of each nation.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's
leadership role in post-conflict reconstruction and development within the
African Union, as well as its contributions during its presidency of the Common
Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
He expressed Egypt's desire to
enhance political dialogue with Rwanda, revitalize the joint committee, and
expand cooperation in various fields, especially economics and investment.
Abu Zeid added that Egypt
welcomed Rwanda's decision to allocate a logistics zone, which will facilitate
Egyptian business expansion and investment in the Rwandan market. Egypt also
pledged support to Rwanda in key areas like water management and healthcare,
including the completion of the Egypt-Rwanda Magdi Yacoub Cardiac Centre and
its expected role in making Rwanda a regional hub for therapeutic services for
the patients from both central and eastern Africa.
The Egyptian side expressed its aspiration to activate the African Medicines Agency and leverage Egyptian pharmaceutical expertise in the agency's administrative structure.
