Egypt, Korea aim to enhance project partnerships

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt, in partnership with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Export-Import Bank of Korea's Cairo office, hosted the "Korea-Egypt Project 2024" forum at the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza. This forum was convened to foster stronger partnerships between Egypt and South Korea in project development.

Egyptian participants included representatives from key government agencies, such as the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of International Cooperation, National Authority for Tunnels, Egyptian Railways, Maritime Transport Sector, Suez Canal Authority, New Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater. Additionally, major companies presented promising projects and discussed potential collaborations with South Korean firms.

From South Korea, approximately 45 companies from various sectors, including energy, engineering, construction, electronics, and transportation, attended either in person or online to explore project cooperation opportunities with Egypt.

Korean Ambassador Kim Young-hyun, who was present at the event, highlighted Egypt's active development of infrastructure in sectors such as the new administrative capital, urban development, transportation, environment, energy, and maritime navigation. He emphasized the potential for significant synergy between these projects and the expertise and capabilities of South Korean companies.

Ambassador Kim emphasized that South Korean companies are actively involved in Egypt's manufacturing sector, producing electronics and smartphones. They have also successfully collaborated on projects such as nuclear power plants, transportation infrastructure, and oil refineries. The ambassador noted that the projects showcased at the forum are essential for Egypt's sustainable development and lay the groundwork for long-term economic growth. He expressed his hope that this forum would facilitate increased contributions from South Korean companies to Egypt's development, strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.

A distinguished group of government officials attended the event, including Brigadier Wael Naeem, Advisor to the Minister of Transport, and Tamer Taha, Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation. The Korean Embassy was represented by Yang Ji-hyun, Counselor, and Yi Hyun-do, Commercial Attaché. The forum was also attended by Sid Shin Ji-hyun, General Manager of the KOTRA Cairo office, and Lee Hyun-jung, Branch Manager of the Export-Import Bank of Korea in Cairo.

Following this forum, KOTRA will host the "Korea-Egypt Business Meeting for Projects" from August 28 to September 12, either online or in person. Egyptian government agencies and prominent companies are expected to participate in discussing project cooperation opportunities with South Korean businesses.
