Ragaee Nasr, the Egyptian Ambassador to Malaysia, participated as a guest of honor in the celebration of the launch of the first shipment of components for the Proton Saga car to be assembled in Egypt.
In a speech, the ambassador
expressed his happiness with the success of the embassy's efforts in launching
this cooperation, which was the result of work and negotiations with Proton
company officials since 2022 and culminated in the launch of the first shipment
of Proton Saga car components to be assembled in Egypt. The aim is for Egypt to
become a regional center for assembling the car for local consumption as well
as the possibility of exporting it to neighbouring countries.
The celebration also witnessed
the announcement of the start of this project with the shipment of components
for 120 completely disassembled Proton Saga cars to be assembled in Egypt as
the first assembly of a "left-hand drive" Proton car outside
Malaysia. The assembly of these cars in Egypt is expected to begin in December,
and it is targeted to assemble 5,000 cars of this model in Egypt during 2025.
It is worth noting that the percentage of local components in the assembly
process exceeds 45%.
This project is expected to
contribute to the revival of the automotive components market and complementary
industries in Egypt, and provide nearly 5,000 job opportunities.
