Walid Gamal El Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, welcomed a delegation from the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) to the Authority's headquarters in Ain Sokhna on Wednesday morning.
The delegation, which included
representatives of major international green hydrogen companies, met with
Authority officials to discuss the Economic Zone's efforts to localize the
green hydrogen industry and its related sectors. This aligns with Egypt's
broader vision of transitioning to a green economy.
Gamal El-Din highlighted the Suez
Canal Economic Zone's significant efforts to localize the green hydrogen
industry, including substantial investments in infrastructure and
state-of-the-art facilities, particularly for desalination plants. He outlined
the Authority's vision to become a global hub for green fuels, exemplified by
the rapid development of the 'Egypt for Green Hydrogen' project in Sokhna.
This project, announced at COP27, began production within ten months and has already exported green ammonia to India and secured a major contract with the European Union. The Economic Zone's ports have also successfully restored ship bunkering activities for both traditional and green fuels.
