El-Sherbiny: Private sector invests 1 trillion EGP in urban development

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, announced that the government has significantly expanded private sector participation in urban development projects. Recent projects, totaling over one trillion Egyptian pounds in investments, demonstrate the government's commitment to partnering with the private sector.

On the occasion of Arab Housing Day, under the slogan "Strengthening the principle of partnership and transparency in the urban planning process," which coincides with World Habitat Day, El-Sherbiny emphasized the importance of housing as a fundamental human right and the government's role in ensuring its realization through effective policies and ambitious plans.

El-Sherbiny emphasized that the state's significant urban development achievements over the past decade have been driven by the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Urban Development "Egypt 2052," adopted by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Many of the plan's objectives have been realized well ahead of schedule. Furthermore, the government has actively encouraged private sector participation in urban development projects. Through numerous partnerships with the private sector, total investments have surpassed one trillion Egyptian pounds, creating tens of thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities.

He explained that the Egyptian state has made significant strides in housing and urban development, aligning with Vision 2030. Despite global economic challenges and rising construction costs, the minister has consistently delivered affordable housing for all citizens.

He added: “The ministry is committed to implementing various development projects, driving comprehensive social and economic progress. Our social housing initiatives, launched in 2014, aim to provide affordable housing for all Egyptians. To achieve sustainable urban development, we're expanding smart cities that leverage technology. These 38 new 'fourth-generation cities' will enhance quality of life and create fully-serviced communities.”
