Iraq seeks Egyptian expertise for infrastructure boost

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, discussed, Tuesday, with Qahtan Taha Khalaf Al-Janabi, Iraqi Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States in Egypt, ways to enhance cooperation and development efforts between Egypt and Iraq.

The meeting focused on reviewing bilateral cooperation initiatives to rebuild Iraq in various sectors, including infrastructure projects, roads, bridges, railways, ports, and housing. Egyptian companies are actively involved in the Iraqi market, leveraging the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries in recent years.

The Minister highlighted the ongoing coordination between the ministry and the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo to monitor the progress of bilateral relations. This includes organizing meetings and technical committees in the fields of health, customs, agriculture, organization and administration, social solidarity, and the National Academy for Training, aimed at boosting economic and financial ties.

The two sides discussed preparations for the third session of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi Higher Committee.

The Iraqi ambassador expressed Iraq's gratitude for its relationship with Egypt, emphasizing the crucial role of Egyptian companies in Iraq's reconstruction efforts. He cited the rehabilitation of Baghdad Airport Road and the construction of 130,000 housing units as examples of these projects. The ambassador affirmed Egypt's significant potential and encouraged Egyptian companies to seize the opportunities available for infrastructure development. He also expressed hope for strengthened bilateral relations through the convening of the joint higher committee.
