Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy held a meeting with Hesham El-Nazer, the Managing Director and Country Director of Google Egypt, along with other company officials. The meeting was also attended by Amr El-Qady, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, and Dr. Mohamed Shaaban, Assistant Minister for Digital Services.
The discussions focused on
strengthening cooperation between the ministry and Google, particularly in
promoting Egypt as a vibrant and youthful tourist destination. This aligns with
the ministry's current promotional strategy, which emphasizes digital marketing
and leveraging various social media platforms.
The parties explored ways to
collaborate on promoting Egypt as a tourist destination, especially through
partnerships with tour operators to amplify joint promotional campaigns
executed by the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority in target markets.
Additionally, they discussed highlighting specific cities, destinations, and
tourism products to attract high-spending tourists from specific markets and
segments.
The meeting also explored the
possibility of utilizing Google's technologies and services to raise awareness
among its users about Egypt's diverse tourist destinations. Furthermore, they
discussed leveraging Google Street View to showcase Egypt's streets, shops,
tourist attractions, and historical sites to Google search users.
The proposal of collaborating on
training and capacity-building for ministry employees in the field of digital
transformation was also discussed to support the ministry's promotional
efforts.
Google representatives presented
the latest developments in ongoing cooperation between the company and the
ministry, represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion,
to promote Egypt as a world-class tourist destination. They highlighted
statistics and indicators they had compiled based on this cooperation to
monitor the number and volume of Google searches for Egypt, the demand for
tourism in Egypt, and the most searched-for and requested tourist destinations.
Google also presented a proposal to the minister expressing the company's interest in collaborating with the ministry to promote the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
