Huawei partners with Egypt to localize meter production

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with Jim Liu, CEO of Huawei Egypt, and his delegation to discuss strategies for enhancing the nation's power grid.

The discussions included localizing technology production as the parties explored opportunities to localize the production of electrical equipment and communication devices within Egypt.

The meeting focused on integrating smart meters to detect tampering, reduce electricity theft, and improve overall grid efficiency. Both sides emphasized the importance of leveraging information technology to optimize grid management, reduce losses, and ensure a reliable power supply.

They also highlighted the successful implementation of a pilot smart grid project in North Cairo, which reduced losses by 7% and discussed the potential for expanding this project to other regions.

Dr. Esmat encouraged collaboration between the public and private sectors to accelerate the transition to a smart grid and improve electricity services. The meeting also touched on the integration of renewable energy sources and the role of technology in optimizing their utilization.

By combining Huawei's advanced technologies with Egypt's strategic vision, the partnership aims to create a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable power grid for the future.
