Reopening the markets of Kurdistan to Egyptian food exports

Dr. Tarek El-Houby, Head of the National Food Safety Authority, welcomed a delegation from the General Directorate of Animal Wealth in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The delegation, visiting Egypt from November 2nd to 6th, included Engineer Raya Selim, Director-General of Animal Wealth at the Ministry of Agriculture in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Counselor Azad Saber, Director-General of Follow-up and Planning, and Engineer Feras Seddiq, Director-General of Veterinary Wealth. The meeting was also attended by members of the Food Industries Export Council, the Trade and Development Reform Project "TRAID" affiliated with the United States Agency for International Development in Egypt, and several leaders from the National Food Safety Authority.

El-Houby highlighted the importance of the Kurdistan Region as a target market for Egyptian exports in the future. He emphasized the National Food Safety Authority's role in preserving food safety, aligning with Egypt's Vision 2030 and Africa's Vision 2036. The authority is actively working to enhance the food safety system.

The meeting focused on reopening the Kurdistan Region's markets to Egyptian exports of heat-treated animal-origin food products, such as dairy products, processed meat and poultry, and pasteurized eggs. Dr. El-Houby outlined the authority's comprehensive approach to food safety control, encompassing raw materials, manufacturing processes, and final products. He also detailed the analytical methods used to ensure the effectiveness of food safety systems.

Engineer Raya Selim commended the Food Safety Authority's role in managing Egypt's food production and trade system. He expressed the Kurdistan Region's desire to strengthen cooperation with Egypt and emphasized the importance of removing obstacles to food exports between the two regions.
