Dr. Sherif Fakhry, the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, has announced that Egypt's strategic wheat reserves have reached a level that can sustain the country for 5 months. The ministry has contracted to import 290,000 tons of wheat.
In line with the political leadership's directives to enhance the country's reserves of various strategic commodities and diversify sources, the ministry, represented by the General Authority for Supply Commodities, has contracted to import 290,000 tons of wheat as follows: 120,000 tons of Romanian wheat, 120,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat, and 50,000 tons of Bulgarian wheat, scheduled to arrive in December.
This additional import will ensure that the strategic wheat reserve is sufficient to cover the country's needs for the next 5 months.
