BMW asserts ability to meet climate goals for new models

The CEO of BMW, Oliver Zipse, has expressed confidence that the company will achieve the European Union's 2025 climate targets for new car emissions. In an interview with Automobilwoche, Zipse stated that the company has been aware of these targets since 2019 and has already made necessary adjustments to its model policies and improved the efficiency of its drive systems. He emphasized that there is no justification for delaying the implementation of these carbon dioxide emission reduction goals.

This statement comes amidst calls from other European car manufacturers for a temporary suspension of the tightening of carbon dioxide emission regulations. Beginning next year, the average emissions of new cars sold within the EU must be reduced by 19%, from 115.1 grams per kilometer to 93.6 grams per kilometer. Non-compliance with these regulations will result in fines for car manufacturers.
