During his field visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) project on Saturday, Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly followed up on the current executive status of all ongoing works at the museum in preparation for its opening.
In the presence of Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, Governor of Giza Engineer Adel El-Naggar, Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary-General Dr. Mohamed Ismail, Grand Egyptian Museum Authority CEO Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, and project general engineering supervisor Major General Atef Muftah, along with other officials, the Prime Minister toured the Grand Egyptian Museum.
The Minister of Tourism and
Antiquities emphasized that the world eagerly anticipates the museum's opening,
expecting it to significantly boost tourism to Egypt. He highlighted the Egyptian
government's commitment to providing a world-class visitor experience,
showcasing Egyptian civilization through exceptional artifact displays and
accompanying services. The Minister noted the impressive influx of Egyptian and
foreign visitors during the trial operation of the main halls.
During a tour of the solar boats
building, Dr. Madbouly received an update from the Minister of Tourism and
Antiquities on the museum's progress towards its opening. This includes
completing work in King Tutankhamun's halls, transferring artifacts, finishing
display showcases, and resuming work on the solar boats museum building.
The Minister of Tourism and
Antiquities reported that several areas have been completed and received,
including the King Khufu Solar Boats Museum, the caves in the main halls, the
restoration center, and operating and security systems.
Inspecting the King Khufu Solar
Boats Museum, Madbouly directed the expeditious installation of the second
boat, given the availability of its foundation. He also emphasized the
completion of all remaining finishing works at the Grand Egyptian Museum.
The Prime Minister visited the
museum's official store, reviewing its collections. He directed an increase in
the number of archaeological replicas available for tourists to purchase. He
interacted with tourists present in the store, who expressed their enthusiasm
for visiting this significant historical site.
He also followed up on the
progress of surrounding area development. Major General Atef Muftah presented
an overview of ongoing projects, including the creation of green spaces,
aesthetic designs, the development of squares, and the installation of lighting
and irrigation networks. He also discussed the project to enhance the visual
image of the ring road in Cairo and Giza Governorates, encompassing Ramses
Square, the area under the ring road, the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, and
various roads leading to the museum.
Governor of Giza Engineer Adel El-Naggar,
stated that he is closely monitoring the implementation of development works
around the Grand Egyptian Museum and Pyramids Gardens. This aligns with the
state's plan to improve infrastructure and enhance the areas surrounding the
museum and its access roads.
El-Naggar highlighted the ongoing
progress of the fourth metro line, particularly in the vicinity of the
Cairo-Alexandria desert road opposite the museum. He emphasized efforts to
expedite paving and planning work in coordination with the Roads Directorate
and Giza Traffic Administration to improve traffic flow. He also mentioned
ongoing developments on Fayoum Road and the entrance to the archaeological
area, including sidewalk improvements, landscaping, and lighting enhancements.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to the highest quality standards to
maintain the aesthetic appeal of the area. He further emphasized the ongoing
progress of work in the Pyramids Gardens sector, including wall development and
the installation of electric escalators for pedestrian bridges.
The Prime Minister also reviewed
the status of surrounding road development, various public transportation
options, and recent developments at Sphinx airport.
Concluding his tour, the Prime Minister stressed the need to intensify efforts in the coming days to complete all remaining works. He also emphasized the importance of meticulous logistical planning for a grand celebratory event befitting the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, showcasing the significance of Egyptian people and their ancient civilization to the world.
