Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, met with his Nigerian counterpart Dr. Doris Akosua Uzoma, on the sidelines of his current visit to Istanbul, Turkey. The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint economic relations between the two countries, the global economic situation, and a number of issues of common interest. The meeting was attended by Minister Plenipotentiary for Trade Ali Pasha, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Office in Istanbul.
The meeting highlighted the
importance of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) for
boosting intra-African trade and achieving continental economic integration.
Both Egypt and Nigeria stressed the need to accelerate implementation for
mutual benefit.
Discussions also focused on the
D-8 Group's role in strengthening economic cooperation among OIC member states.
Both sides emphasized the importance of increased collaboration among Islamic
countries to boost intra-trade and joint investments.
The minister noted the progress
of Egyptian logistics zones in key African cities, which will improve access
for Egyptian exports to African markets.
Samir further mentioned exploring
"equivalent deals" to increase trade between Egypt and Nigeria. This
system aims to ease pressure on hard currencies and fulfill the needs of both
markets.
