Communications Minister seeks Airbus R&D center in Egypt

On behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, participated in the activities of the AI Action Summit, hosted by the French capital, Paris, during the period from February 10 to 11. The summit hosted numerous heads of state and government from approximately 30 countries, along with around 60 ministers, ambassadors, and government officials, and 20 heads of international institutions.

Dr. Talaat participated in a session titled "Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for the Future of Work," where he discussed AI's impact on employment and offered recommendations for workforce reskilling to ensure its responsible application. During the summit, he also met with Wouter van Wersch, international president of Airbus, to explore the possibility of establishing an Airbus R&D center in Egypt. This meeting showcased Egypt's expanding outsourcing sector and the investment incentives available through the Digital Egypt strategy. Dr. Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Technological Skills Development, was also present.

The Minister also met with Jerome Henique, CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, along with Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Egyptian Ambassador to France, and Orange Egypt CEO Yasser Shaker. Orange demonstrated its AI applications in sectors like training and sports, with Henique expressing interest in expanding collaboration. Also present were Engineer Shereen El-Gendy, Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Strategy and Implementation, Dr. Hoda Baraka,  Samah Aziz, Head of International Relations at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Engineer Mahmoud Safrata, Head of IT Markets Development at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency.

Finally, Dr. Talaat participated in the GPAI ministerial coordination meeting, where he outlined Egypt's efforts to promote AI adoption.
