SEKEM hosts carbon certification ceremony in Sharkia

SEKEM hosts carbon certification ceremony in Sharkia

Isis, a SEKEM Group subsidiary and organic food producer, held a carbon certificate distribution ceremony at SEKEM Farm in Sharkia Governorate. The event, attended by partners and sustainability leaders, aimed to empower companies to take meaningful climate action and reduce their carbon footprint and achieve recognized carbon certification, driving significant environmental progress.

During the ceremony, 84 companies received their first carbon certificates, each representing one ton of carbon offset through SEKEM's "Greening the Desert" project in the Bahariya Oasis. This pioneering initiative contributes to transforming desert lands into thriving ecosystems through sustainable agricultural practices, including organic and biodynamic farming.

The growing impact of collaborative efforts in climate change and sustainable business practices is evident in this achievement, underscoring SEKEM's commitment to sustainable development through the Economy of Love (EoL) standard. Developed by the Egyptian Biodynamic Agriculture Association (EBDA), this standard provides a transparent and comprehensive system to ensure that organizations adhere to ethical, environmental, and social practices while offsetting their carbon footprint, thereby promoting organic agriculture, fair trade, social justice, and meaningful contributions to climate protection and sustainability.

During the event, Dr. Thoraya Saada, Director of the Carbon Footprint Center, shared valuable insights on the role of carbon certificates in advancing effective climate action, stressing the importance of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.

In his speech, Helmy Abouleish, CEO of SEKEM Group, stated, "At SEKEM, we believe in a holistic vision of sustainability, balancing economic, environmental, social, and cultural dimensions. This event embodies that approach, fostering community dialogue on environmental impact, while celebrating tangible achievements on the ground."

Through initiatives like the Economy of Love standard and its deep commitment to sustainable development, SEKEM continues to drive tangible environmental change. By promoting carbon sequestration, regenerative agriculture, and responsible business practices, SEKEM enables companies and communities to actively shape a more sustainable, climate-conscious future.
