Tax Authority launches central unit to facilitate customs, tax procedures for automotive industry

Rasha Abdelaal, the head of Egypt's Tax Authority, announced that in line with the Minister of Finance's keenness to facilitate procedures for taxpayers, the minister has issued Decree No. 335 of 2024 establishing a central unit to streamline customs and tax procedures for entities and companies operating in the automotive industry. She clarified that this unit will report directly to the Minister of Finance.

According to the decision, the unit's responsibilities include:

Streamlining and accelerating customs and tax procedures for entities and companies operating in the automotive industry.

Addressing customs and tax obstacles faced by these entities at customs outlets, centers, and tax offices.

Unifying the application of customs and tax rules and procedures for entities and companies participating in the national program for developing the automotive industry in similar cases.

Following up on the implementation of these procedures at customs outlets, centers, and tax offices.

Developing appropriate solutions to the problems and obstacles faced by the automotive industry when finalizing customs and tax procedures, whether for imports or exports.

Preparing statistical reports on the customs and tax transactions of entities and companies operating in the automotive industry.

The unit is composed of representatives from both the Egyptian Customs Authority and the Tax Authority. The heads of both authorities will promptly implement the unit's recommendations to resolve problems and obstacles.

The Secretary-General of the Fund for Financing Environmentally Friendly Automotive Industries will submit monthly reports to the Minister of Finance on the unit's performance, achievements, and measures taken to address industry challenges.

Customs outlets, centers, tax offices, sectors, and entities affiliated with the Ministry of Finance will coordinate and cooperate with the unit to fulfill its responsibilities and provide necessary data.
