Dr. Amr Talaat, Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, has emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI). He highlighted AI's role in driving innovation and development across various sectors.
In 2019, Egypt launched the first phase of its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, with the second phase on the horizon. Dr. Talaat discussed these initiatives during his speech at the "AI Innovation Day for Business" event, organized by SAP. The event was attended by key figures, including Engineer Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Public Business Sector, and Manos Raptopoulos, Regional President of SAP for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Egypt is actively promoting
responsible AI. The country has launched the Egyptian Charter for Responsible
AI and enacted the Personal Data Protection Law. A new center is being
established to oversee data protection, and efforts are underway to develop
legislation for secure data sharing.
AI offers significant
opportunities in fields like healthcare, where it can be used for personalized
medicine and disease prediction. In industries like manufacturing and
agriculture, AI can optimize processes and improve crop yields. However,
challenges such as AI ethics and labor market disruptions need to be addressed.
To prepare the workforce for the AI era, Egypt is fostering partnerships between industry and academia. A recent agreement between SAP Egypt and the Egyptian University for Information and Technology aims to integrate AI solutions into educational curricula.
