Arab Contractors to build strategic road linking Chad, Libya, Egypt

Arab Contractors to build strategic road linking Chad, Libya, Egypt

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, commended the Arab Contractors Company for a significant stride in regional cooperation. This achievement follows the signing of a protocol with Chad to study and implement a vital road linking Chad to Egypt via Libya. This crucial infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate cross-border trade.

Minister El-Sherbiny emphasized that the Arab Contractors Company serves as a model for strengthening Egyptian-African partnerships, showcasing expertise transfer in the construction sector and collaborative efforts towards shared development goals. The agreement, signed by Chad's Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance, Aziz Mohamed Saleh, and Arab Contractors Chairman, Engineer Ahmed El-Assar, officially initiates the road's feasibility studies. This project is vital for strengthening economic and social ties between the two countries by facilitating the movement of goods and people across the Sahel region.

The signing was attended by Engineer Heba Abul Ela, a member of the board of directors of the Arab Contractors Company, Engineer Mohamed El-Kiey, head of the sector overseeing the Chad branch, and Engineer Mohamed El-Mashad, director of the Chad branch.

Engineer Ahmed El-Assar expressed gratitude to Minister El-Sherbiny, highlighting the project's significance in fostering strong bilateral relations. Chadian officials warmly welcomed the Arab Contractors team, emphasizing the project's mutual benefits for both nations. The signed protocol mandates the completion of detailed technical studies as a precursor to road construction.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to develop infrastructure and enhance cross-border exchange. Notably, last September, the Arab Contractors Company signed an agreement with the Libyan Fund for Development and Reconstruction for the road's middle section within Libya. This completes the contractual framework for the entire road project across Chad and Libya, paving the way for immediate commencement of study and implementation work.
