Tesla China, a subsidiary of the global electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, announced the anticipated completion of its new Shanghai factory by year's end.
China News Agency (Xinhua) reported that the factory, specializing in Megapack energy storage batteries, broke ground in late May. Commercial production is slated for the first quarter of next year, with an initial capacity of 10,000 units annually, amounting to 40 gigawatt-hours. The Shanghai Lingang Special Area Administration reports a 200,000 square meter factory site and an investment of 1.45 billion yuan (approximately US$201.76 million).
This marks Tesla's inaugural
Megapack production facility outside the US and its second Shanghai venture,
following the 2019 launch of its electric vehicle manufacturing plant, according
to Deutsche Press Agency.
