Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, discussed with a consortium of Abu Dhabi Masdar, Infinity Power, and Hassan Allam Construction the implementation of 1,200 MW solar and wind power projects, including integrated battery storage and standalone storage facilities to strengthen the electrical grid.
These discussions were part of ongoing efforts to monitor energy strategy, project execution, renewable energy expansion, and grid interconnection timelines.
The meeting was attended by Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al
Ramahi, Deputy CEO Ali Al Shammari, Infinity Power Chairman Mohamed Mansour,
Hassan Allam Chairman Amr Allam, and Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company
Chairman Engineer Mona Rizk.
Dr. Esmat emphasized the sector's focus on increasing
renewable energy reliance, reducing emissions, and diversifying sources. He
highlighted the energy strategy's goal to increase renewable contributions to
the electricity mix and maximize returns from Egypt's natural renewable energy
resources.
He reiterated the action plan's targets of exceeding 42%
renewable energy in the mix by 2030 and 65% by 2040, aligning with the
Ministry's aims to reduce fossil fuel dependence, expand clean energy, and
protect the environment.
The Minister confirmed ongoing support for private sector
participation, aiming to increase their role in renewable projects. He stressed
the private sector's crucial partnership and the Ministry's commitment to
fostering local and foreign clean energy investments. He praised the Masdar-led
consortium's expertise and reliability.
He directed the expedited implementation of renewable energy and battery storage projects to optimize added capacity, enhance efficiency, and ensure grid stability during peak demand.
