Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly met Sunday with Major General Dr. Bahaa El-Din Zidan, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchasing, Medical Logistics and Supply, and the Medical Technology Department, to discuss a number of critical files. The meeting took place at the government headquarters in New Alamein City.
Madbouly emphasized that this
meeting is part of his ongoing efforts to oversee the implementation of
strategies aimed at localizing the production of raw materials essential for
the medical industry. This initiative aligns with the government's broader goal
of strengthening the national economy, reducing dependence on foreign imports,
and bolstering domestic industries. By fostering self-sufficiency in medical
supplies, Egypt can save foreign currency, decrease its import bill, and
enhance its resilience in the face of global challenges.
Counselor Mohammed Al-Homossani,
spokesman for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, announced that a
recent meeting focused on localizing the production of raw materials for
Egypt's medical industries. In collaboration with the Egyptian Medicines
Authority, the meeting discussed strategies to achieve this goal. A conference
will be held to showcase the progress made on a joint procurement project for
essential drug raw materials. The event will be attended by key manufacturers
and raw materials producers.
He revealed that a meeting is
scheduled with executives from leading global companies to discuss their
participation in a joint raw materials procurement initiative. This aligns with
the government's strategy to foster strategic partnerships between public and
private sectors, aiming to transfer advanced technology and implement global
best practices in the pharmaceutical industry.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the progress of a project to expand the network of 24-hour emergency pharmacies nationwide. A detailed timeline for new pharmacy openings was presented. Additionally, the executive status of a strategic warehouses project for medical products and devices was discussed, with the first phase expected to be operational by mid-2026. This project has the potential to expand significantly, covering a total area of up to 106,000 acres across six locations in Egypt.
