$30 million chemical plant breaks ground in Sokhna

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SEZONE), presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the "Chemdy Egypt for Chemicals" factory within the Chinese industrial developer Teda-Egypt. The factory is located in the integrated industrial zone in Sokhna.

The project covers an area of 60,000 square meters and has a total investment of 30 million US dollars. It aims to produce over 40,000 tons of calcium hypochlorite annually. The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed and commence production on May 1, 2025. The project is anticipated to create more than 100 direct job opportunities.

The ceremony was attended by Chao Hui, Managing Director of Tida Egypt for the Development of the Special Economic Zone, Cho Ji Feng, Managing Director of Tida Egypt for Investment, Jiang Hong Chao, Executive Director of Chemdy Company, and several other executive leaders from the authority.

In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Gamal El-Din expressed his enthusiasm for laying the foundation stone for the Chemdy factory. He highlighted that this project contributes to the ongoing success story of the SEZONE and Chinese investments, which have become a model for international economic cooperation.

So far, this partnership has attracted over 160 companies with a total investment of 2 billion US dollars, creating approximately 50,000 job opportunities.

He confirmed that a recent promotional tour in China resulted in the signing of contracts for 6 new projects. These projects have a combined investment exceeding 1.067 billion dollars and cover a total area of 1.2 million square meters. They focus on deepening cooperation in the fields of energy production, glass manufacturing, bromine, caustic soda, and other sectors that complement the Chemdy project. These initiatives represent a significant leap in the manufacturing of fine chemical products, aligning with the Egyptian state's strategy to localize targeted industrial sectors.

He also emphasized the Suez Canal Economic Zone's aspiration for the Chemdy Egypt for Chemicals project to become the largest base for the production of calcium hypochlorite in Egypt and Africa.

It's noteworthy that the Chemdy Group specializes in the production of chlorine-based disinfectants and related fine chemicals. The company leverages technical support from Nankai University in China and operates 3 production bases in Dalian, Binzhou, and Taiwan, among others. Additionally, it maintains 3 production bases outside of China, with a combined annual production exceeding 120,000 tons. This makes Chemdy the world's largest producer of calcium hypochlorite, exporting its products to Russia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America.
