The Media Center of the National Food Safety Authority has issued its 37th weekly report for the year 2024, covering the period from September 28 to October 4. The report highlights various activities related to food safety and trade.
According to the Information
Center of the General Administration for Exports and Imports at the Authority,
the number of food shipments exported reached 3770, amounting to approximately
200,000 tons. This represents an increase of 12,000 tons compared to the
previous week and involved 1415 exporting companies. These shipments encompassed
a diverse range of 623 types of flour, vegetables, and various food products.
Egyptian vegetable exports were
led by sweet potatoes at 15,000 tons, followed by beans (10,000 tons) and
onions (5,000 tons). In total, 54 vegetable varieties were exported, amounting
to approximately 36,000 tons. For fruits, mangoes were the top export at 12,000
tons, followed by pomegranates (9,000 tons) and strawberries (4,000 tons). A
total of 40 fruit varieties were exported, reaching approximately 32,000 tons.
Sudan, Somalia, Vietnam, and
Saudi Arabia were among the largest importers of Egyptian exports during the
past week, out of a total of 169 importing countries.
Safaga Port ranked first in terms
of the number of exported food shipments with a total of 610 shipments, followed
by Alexandria Port with 574 shipments, and Cairo Airport with 370 shipments.
The number of imported food
shipments reached 2170 shipments, amounting to approximately 615,000 tons for
842 importing companies. These shipments varied across 150 types of wheat,
soybeans, and raw sugar from 80 countries. Russia was the largest exporter to
Egypt, followed by Ukraine, Brazil, and Uruguay.
Alexandria Port was the busiest for imported food shipments, handling 666 shipments. Port Said and Cairo Airport followed with 410 and 333 shipments, respectively.
