Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk met with his Romanian counterpart, Florin Barbu, in Bucharest. The meeting aimed to strengthen agricultural cooperation between Egypt and Romania. Dr. Alaa Khalil, Director of the Field Crops Institute at the Agricultural Research Center, joined Minister Farouk for the discussions, which took place during the Egyptian-Romanian Joint Higher Technical Committee meetings.
The two ministers discussed
increasing Romanian investments in Egypt, particularly in agricultural
mechanization, cooperative development, livestock production, animal health,
dairy, and food safety. They also explored the development of new and superior
varieties of strategic crops such as wheat, corn, and oilseeds like sunflower
and soybean, as well as fodder.
Farouk emphasized the
long-standing and promising agricultural relations between Egypt and Romania.
He highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation to include the exchange
of expertise, increasing trade opportunities for agricultural products between
the two countries, promoting agricultural research, and developing animal
wealth, including livestock and poultry breeding, as well as aquaculture,
greenhouses, and modern irrigation systems.
During his visit to Romania, the Minister of Agriculture is expected to sign the executive plan of the memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Romania for cooperation in agriculture and related activities. This includes the production of high-yielding seeds, livestock production, joint research projects, plant health, and the exchange of expertise. He will also hold bilateral talks with Romanian agricultural officials to strengthen joint cooperation between the two countries.
