Egypt's food exports surge; tomatoes, citrus lead

Egypt's National Food Safety Authority reported a significant increase in food exports during the week of December 21-27, 2024. In their 49th weekly report, they revealed that 6,330 food consignments were shipped, totaling approximately 227,000 tons.

Tomatoes led Egyptian vegetable exports, reaching 10,000 tons. Sweet potatoes followed at 7,000 tons, and various types of beans comprised 6,000 tons of exports. In total, 66 vegetable varieties were exported, amounting to approximately 48,000 tons.

Citrus fruits maintained their position as the top exported fruit, with 60,000 tons shipped last week. Strawberries followed at 7,000 tons, and dates accounted for 4,000 tons of exports. A total of 36 fruit varieties were exported, reaching approximately 77,000 tons.

Saudi Arabia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia were the primary destinations for Egyptian exports last week, among a total of 172 importing countries.

Safaga Port secured the first place in the number of exported food consignments with a total of 1,410 consignments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 1,400 consignments, and then Alexandria Port with a total of 800 consignments.

The total number of incoming food consignments reached 1,700, amounting to approximately 397,000 tons for 820 importing companies. These consignments included 205 varieties of wheat, various oils, soybeans, and broad beans, from 80 countries. Russia was the largest exporter to Egypt, followed by Romania, Bulgaria, and the United States.

Alexandria Port ranked first in the number of incoming food consignments, with a total of 485 consignments. Damietta Port came in second with 365 consignments, followed by Cairo International Airport with a total of 315 consignments.

The General Administration for Food Registration and Licensing registered 54 products and 16 companies and factories, conducted 4 inspection visits, examined 413 new products, and issued 9 free sale certificates.
