A recent report by the Information Center of the General Authority for Food Safety highlights a significant increase in Egypt's food exports. During week 48 of 2024 (December 14-20), the country exported 5,950 shipments, totaling approximately 210,000 tons, from 1,666 exporting companies. These shipments encompassed a diverse range of 616 products, including vegetables, fruits, flour, and other food items.

Tomatoes led exports with 9,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes (8,000 tons) and beans (5,000 tons). A total of 63 vegetable varieties were exported, amounting to roughly 43,000 tons.

Citrus fruits dominated fruit exports with 50,000 tons, while dates and strawberries each contributed 9,000 tons. 37 fruit varieties were exported, totaling approximately 70,000 tons.

Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Libya were the primary recipients of Egyptian food exports.

Cairo International Airport emerged as the leading export hub, handling 1,440 shipments. Safaga Port (1,250 shipments) and Alexandria Port (740 shipments) followed closely.

Egypt also witnessed a substantial increase in food imports, with 1,785 shipments arriving, totaling approximately 316,000 tons from 810 importing companies. These shipments comprised 255 varieties, including wheat, soybeans, various oils, and lentils, sourced from 87 countries.

Russia emerged as the leading exporter to Egypt, followed by the United States, Bulgaria, and Malaysia.

Alexandria Port received the highest number of imported shipments (555), followed by Damietta Port (300) and Cairo International Airport (282).

The General Administration for Food Registration and Licensing registered 94 products and 16 companies/manufacturers. The administration conducted 3 inspection visits, examined 513 new products, and issued 10 free sale certificates.
