Egypt to lead International Gas Union from 2028

Egypt to lead International Gas Union from 2028

Egypt has won the presidency of the International Gas Union for a three-year term from 2028 to 2031, following its role as vice president during the period 2025-2028, according to a press release.

Khaled Abu Bakr, Chairman of TAQA Arabia and the Egyptian Gas Association, will represent Egypt in the new position. Cairo will host the 31st International Gas Conference in 2031.

"Our future vision for the energy sector is centered around three main objectives: enhancing energy security by improving gas infrastructure in underserved areas, ensuring the ability to better manage price fluctuations, and promoting sustainability by developing the infrastructure for green hydrogen, methanol, and clean energy, which contributes to reducing emissions," Abu Bakr said.
