Chevron reinforces commitment to Egypt's energy growth

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawy inspected the "Khangar 1" exploratory well in the North Dabaa offshore area of the Western Mediterranean. This well is part of Chevron's concession area.

Accompanied by EGAS's Executive Managing Director Yassin Mohammed and the Ministry's Deputy Minister for the Technical Office, Moataz Atef, the Minister oversaw the drilling operations. These operations, initiated earlier this month, are part of the petroleum sector's broader strategy to intensify exploration and drilling efforts in promising areas like the Western Mediterranean.

Badawy emphasized the importance of accelerating the drilling process and highlighted the potential benefits of the partnership between the petroleum sector and Chevron. He believes this collaboration can lead to the discovery of new resources and contribute to Egypt's economic growth.

Christian Svendsen, Chevron's Regional Director for Emerging Markets, expressed gratitude for the Minister's visit, which coincided with the start of drilling operations using the Stena Forth rig. He emphasized Chevron's commitment to leveraging advanced deep-water drilling technologies and its expertise in executing large-scale projects to unlock Egypt's offshore energy potential.

Svendsen reaffirmed Chevron's dedication to supporting Egypt's energy sector by collaborating with the government and other partners on ongoing exploration programs.

The North Dabaa offshore concession is a strategic partnership between Chevron (63%), Woodside Energy Australia (27%), and Tharwa Petroleum Egypt (10%). This project aligns with the petroleum sector's goal of intensifying drilling and exploration activities in the Mediterranean region to boost production and meet growing domestic and regional demand.
