Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Major General Mohamed El-Zamlout, Governor of New Valley, convened with a delegation of Chinese business leaders from the Egyptian-Chinese Businessmen Foundation to explore strategies for enhancing agricultural investment in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Adel Abdel Azim, Head of the Agricultural Research Center, and Dr. Saad Moussa, Supervisor of Foreign Agricultural Relations.
The meeting discussed a proposed agricultural investment
project in the New Valley Governorate, led by China Railway, a major Chinese
company. The aim is to increase seed production for key crops like potatoes,
wheat, and soybeans.
Farouk highlighted the strong Egypt-China relationship and
their collaborative agricultural projects. He also emphasized the Egyptian
government's commitment to enhancing the investment climate, attracting
investors, and engaging the private sector in development."
He indicated that the Ministry of Agriculture will provide
comprehensive technical support to the Chinese side, leveraging experts and
researchers from the Agricultural Research Center, and will address any
obstacles to ensure the project's success. He positioned the New Valley
Governorate project as a catalyst for expanded Chinese business alliance
investments throughout Egypt.
Major General Mohamed El-Zamlout, Governor of New Valley, confirmed
that the New Valley Governorate will offer complete support and streamlined
processes for investors, considering it one of Egypt's promising investment
governorates with many qualifying assets. He further committed to consistent coordination
and oversight to remove any impediments and initiate the project's practical
execution.
The Ministry of Agriculture, the New Valley Governorate, and the Chinese company agreed to develop a joint memorandum of cooperation outlining all areas of collaboration and project implementation mechanisms.
