During his visit to Madrid, Spain for FITUR 2025, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, continued his series of professional meetings.
At the Egyptian pavilion, the Minister met with Juan Carlos González, CEO of Avoris, a leading tour operator in Spain and Latin America. He also met with officials from Viajes Carrefour, another prominent tour operator in the Spanish market, and their accompanying delegations.
These meetings focused on the latest developments in Egypt's
tourism sector and the ministry's current strategic plan. The discussions
highlighted the diverse tourism offerings of Egypt and explored avenues to
enhance inbound tourism from Spain and Latin America.
In the meeting with Viajes Carrefour, company officials
reviewed their business volume and tourism bookings to Egypt. They noted a
recent surge in demand from Spain, with 100-150 daily bookings to Egypt since
January 15th.
The discussion highlighted religious and spiritual tourism
products, such as the Transfiguration Project, Saint Catherine's Monastery, and
the Holy Family Route. Recognizing the ministry's focus on promoting these
sites, Viajes Carrefour agreed to organize a February visit for Spanish travel
companies to experience these offerings firsthand. This itinerary will include
Saint Catherine's Monastery, the Transfiguration area, and key Holy Family
Route sites like the Religious Complex in Old Cairo and the Virgin Mary's tree
in Matariya.
In the meeting with Avoris CEO Juan Carlos González, he
expressed the company's intention to intensify promotional efforts for Egypt in
Mexico, Colombia, and Spain. He emphasized the desire to collaborate with the
Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion on joint campaigns.
Avoris plans to organize a Fam Trip for travel agencies in
Mexico and Colombia to boost tourism from these markets. These agencies will
utilize Avoris' charter flights for their visits to Egypt.
Participating in these meetings were Amr el-Qadi, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, Mohamed Mohsen, Director General of the Foreign Offices, and Ahmed Nabil, Assistant Minister for Aviation and Follow-up.
