The Cairo Chamber of Commerce, led by Ayman El-Ashry, held a meeting with the Mobile Phone Traders Division and representatives of various mobile phone companies to discuss market regulation. The meeting focused on coordinating with companies to address the sector's needs, particularly in light of the recent decision to regulate device entry and activate the Telephony application.
Muhammad Talaat, head of the Mobile Phone Traders Division, emphasized the importance of collaboration between traders, importers, manufacturers, and telecommunications companies to support the presidential initiative for "Localization of Industry." He stated that the Division will intensify its efforts to address the demands and proposals of all stakeholders to meet consumer needs.
Walid Ramadan, Vice President of the Division, outlined the
meeting's agenda, which included discussions on future coordination, the
current market situation following the device entry decision, and meeting local
market needs through locally manufactured and imported devices. He announced
upcoming meetings with manufacturers to discuss their needs and with commercial
representatives to explore agreements that support manufacturers in opening new
export markets.
The Division will submit an urgent memorandum to Ayman El-Ashry with recommendations to regulate the sector economically and socially. Key recommendations include classifying mobile phones as basic commodities due to their importance and the state's digital transformation initiatives, increasing support for manufacturers through facilities and incentives, setting limits on the number of devices allowed per passenger, and clarifying the decision regarding imported mobile devices, the Telephony application, and its implementation.
