Petroleum Minister discusses cooperation with Iraq

Engineer Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met Monday with Engineer Hayan Abdul Ghani, Deputy Prime Minister and Iraqi Minister of Oil, in Baghdad during an official visit to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various petroleum sector fields. Both ministers highlighted the robust bilateral relations and underscored the necessity of strengthening oil and gas cooperation to foster integration and mutual benefit.

During the meeting, Minister Karim Badawy detailed Egypt's petroleum strategy, emphasizing potential collaboration with Iraq across key areas. These included: boosting production activities, utilizing Egypt's refining and petrochemical capabilities, and strengthening regional energy trade. The ministers explored refining Iraqi oil in Egyptian refineries to access regional and global markets, and discussed updating their existing memorandum of understanding to encompass cooperation in new and renewable energy.

Discussions included enhancing the participation of Egyptian companies, with their specialized expertise in design, implementation, maintenance, and operation, in infrastructure and oil and gas projects within Iraq.

The two sides agreed to form a joint steering committee to manage the implementation and follow-up of agreed areas of cooperation. The minister was accompanied by Engineer Ehab Ragai - First Undersecretary of the Ministry for Production, Engineer Salah Abdel Kerim - CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Nasser Shooman - Head of the Central Administration for Transportation and Marketing at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Walid Lotfi - Chairman and Managing Director of Petrojet, Engineer Ahmed Khalifa - Deputy CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation for Planning and Projects, Engineer Mohamed Hassanein - Deputy CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation for Refining, Engineer Khaled Ibrahim - Chairman and Managing Director of San Misr, Engineer Wael Lotfy - Chairman and Managing Director of Enppi, and Mr. Mohamed Samir - General Manager at the Technical Office of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
