The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) has launched the fully solar-powered Al-Nasr Mosque in Dalja village, Minya Governorate, marking a significant milestone as the region's first. This project supports sustainable development by optimizing energy usage in mosques and alleviating pressure on the public grid.
On this occasion, Professor Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf, praised this pioneering experiment, emphasizing its importance in supporting the state's efforts towards the transition to clean energy. He also directed the replication of this experiment in all governorates, giving priority to major mosques with high electricity consumption, to ensure the greatest possible energy savings and expand the scope of benefit from this initiative in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 in the field of renewable energy.
The mosque's system, comprising 15 solar panels and a UPS
for backup power, ensures continuous operation with clean, renewable energy.
The initiative's environmental impact is substantial, reducing carbon emissions
and promoting the adoption of sustainable solutions within religious
institutions, while also lowering traditional electricity usage.
The Ministry of Awqaf, encouraged by the Al-Nasr Mosque
project, will expand solar energy adoption across Egypt, focusing on major
mosques. To maximize effectiveness, the Ministry will collaborate with
renewable energy experts and solar companies for technical and logistical
assistance.
This initiative is a key component of the Ministry's strategic plan to foster sustainable energy practices in places of worship, reduce reliance on traditional electricity, and actively contribute to Egypt's renewable energy goals.
