Al-Wazir focuses on boosting Ro-Ro crop transport

As part of the Egyptian government's efforts to increase exports to Europe, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Transport, held an extensive meeting with Dr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture, to discuss ways to enhance the utilization of the fast sea Ro-Ro line between the Egyptian port of Damietta and the Italian port of Trieste. The line, which began operations on November 28th, aims to facilitate the transport of agricultural crops, vegetables, and other Egyptian products to Italy and from there to the rest of Europe.

The meeting reviewed the line's activity since its launch, including the number of trips and the volume of exported and imported goods. Future plans were discussed as Pan Marine, the line's operator, presented proposals to increase exporters' utilization of its services.

Emphasis was placed on the incentives provided, such as an 88% reduction in port fees, allocation of 35,000 square meters for the project, provision of X-ray inspection devices, and linking customs systems between Egypt and Italy.

The Minister stressed the importance of the role of chambers of commerce in informing exporters and importers about the line's advantages. The importance of training truck drivers at the Ports Training Institute was discussed. He emphasized the necessity of concerted efforts by all relevant parties to maximize the benefits of the line, which represents a green corridor between Egypt and Europe.

The meeting highlighted the importance of the Ro-Ro Line as it contributes to reducing shipping costs and shortening the time of goods arrival, enhances Egypt's position as a logistical hub between Europe and Africa, increases Egyptian exports of agricultural and industrial products, and provides job opportunities in the transport and shipping sectors.
