The Council of Ministers approved several key decisions in its meeting Thursday. Among them was the ratification of the draft presidential decree outlining technical cooperation between Egypt and Italy to support the development of leather, furniture, and wood industrial zones.
The agreement seeks to bolster
the Egyptian industrial system by increasing the production capacity of
industrial zones in the leather, furniture, and marble sectors. It also aims to
drive industrial and economic growth through a focus on technology, innovation,
knowledge transfer, sustainability, and environmental compatibility. This
aligns with Egypt's development policies and addresses the specific needs of
the country.
The project is anticipated to
revitalize the economic and social conditions of the Rubiki Leather City,
Damietta Furniture City, and the marble industrial zone in Shaq al-Tha'ban,
which have faced significant economic challenges due to the precautionary
measures implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Furthermore, the project aims to
generate new employment opportunities for local workers, equip technological
centers in the three target sectors with advanced equipment to enhance product
quality and reduce costs, expand the services provided by these centers, and
facilitate the promotion of local products. Additionally, the project seeks to
upgrade vocational training for economic operators, improving their skills and
developing their management capabilities in these sectors.
The expected outcomes also include fostering industrial integration among small, medium, and large enterprises, strengthening industrial competitiveness in global markets, and increasing export volumes in alignment with government policies and international best practices. Moreover, the project aims to enhance the local content of industrial products, support technologically advanced industries, and promote environmental sustainability through the adoption of renewable energy, product recycling, and energy efficiency measures.
