Dr. Amgad El-Wakil, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, oversaw the arrival of a crucial component, the reactor vessel head, for the fourth nuclear unit at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The component was delivered to the specialized Dabaa port, located at the nuclear power plant site.
The reactor vessel head, shipped from Russia on the evening of October 28 from the port of Novorossiysk,, is a vital part of the nuclear reactor's safety system. It's designed to contain molten nuclear fuel in the unlikely event of a severe accident, preventing the release of radioactive materials into the environment.
The installation of this
component marks a significant milestone in the construction of the Dabaa
Nuclear Power Plant, Egypt's first nuclear power facility. The plant, located
in Matrouh Governorate on the Mediterranean coast, will consist of four
1200-megawatt units, powered by Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors.
The arrival of the reactor vessel head brings Egypt closer to realizing its goal of generating clean, reliable nuclear energy.
